SINGAPORE TAEKWONDO SCORES BIG IN THE INAUGURAL YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES
Posted 24th August, 2010

Both Daryl Tan and Nurul Shafinas Bte Abdul Rahman made sporting history for Singapore Taekwondo in Singapore. They each picked up a bronze medal for their respective weight category. Daryl, 17, headed the charge for the Singapore Taekwondo contingent when he made it to the semi-finals, after beating his competitor from Myanmar, putting him in the history annals of Singapore’s first medalist at the inaugural Youth Olympic games. While Shafinas, also 17, played with guts just to miss out by a point to reach the finals.

Credit also goes to Singapore Taekwondo Federation, and the team’s coach, Mdm Wong Liang Ming who brought the best out of her charges, and making them glowing inspirations to young taekwondo fans across the island. Daryl, Shafinas, Christopher Lee and Nur Zakirah displayed sheer determination and passion, making all of them excellent role models as well as true champions in the sport.

INDUK Taekwondo congratulates Singapore Taekwondo Federation, Mdm Wong, Daryl and Shafinas for their successful showing at the Youth Olympic Games; and wishes them and the Singapore Taekwondo Federation, all the best in their future competitions as they continue to fly the Singapore flag with honour and pride.
